About Revolve Design

Revolve Design is a full service product design, engineering and development consulting firm located in Marin County, California.

Revolve was founded in 1997 and is operated by Michael Shawver, inventor of the award winning Palm™ handheld computer-compatible UniMount™ vehicle docking product line. Revolve was the first to market with PDA mounting/docking products and quickly became the leading developer and manufacturer of these much needed accessories. Customers and partners included Palm Computing, Coca-Cola, HP, Dell, RIM, Symbol Technologies and a variety of law enforcement, EMT and transportation logistics groups around the world.

With a career in the engineering field spanning 30+ years, including 8 years at IDEO, Michael has had the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects ranging from surgical robotics to children’s toys. While a self-starter and self-motivated, he is also a proactive team player and leader while working on projects. He has a solid background in mechanisms, high volume injection molded plastic part design, consumer, medical and industrial product design, sheet metal, machined parts, materials, engineering analysis and basic electronics. He is a hands-on, get it done right design engineer and has years of experience in getting products into production. He also has extensive experience in working out problems in the manufacturing trenches, both domestically and offshore. He excels in producing simple, innovative solutions to complex design challenges.

Michael Shawver is a fourth generation Californian and was born in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and has designed products for dozens of companies around the world. Michael has lived in London, UK and had the opportunity to gain experience working side by side with European coworkers and clients.

Design Methodology

Synthesize, evaluate, correlate, tap into previous design approaches and go at it from every possible angle. Then combine, filter, reduce and finally forge the simplest solution with an aim to minimize redundancies, combine feature functions and keep costs and complexity to a minimum. All of the above is carried out with the end goal of hitting production cost objectives, insuring ease of manufacturability and solidly meeting the needs of the product end user and/or product PDS.
